  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • to taste fresh basil or parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with chopped onion and garlic until cooked through; drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes and seasonings; simmer for 15 minutes.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the Parmesan cheese until smooth.
  6. In a baking dish, layer meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella cheese; repeat layers twice more.
  7. Top with remaining noodles and sauce; sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan.
  8. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes; uncover and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
