- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1 cup warm milk
- ¼ cup melted unsalted butter
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground allspice
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup raisins
- 3–3.5 cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour (for glaze)
- 3–4 tablespoons water (for glaze)
- ¼ cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup (for glaze)
- 2–3 teaspoons milk (for glaze)
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and granulated sugar; let sit until frothy (5-10 minutes).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together warm milk, melted butter, granulated sugar, cinnamon, allspice, salt, vanilla extract, and raisins.
- Add the yeast mixture to the wet ingredients.
- Gradually stir in 3 cups of all-purpose flour until a soft dough forms; add more flour if necessary until the dough is not sticky.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
- Place in a greased bowl; cover and let rise until doubled (about 1 hour).
- Punch down the dough; divide into 12 pieces and shape into buns on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Let buns rise again for 30 minutes before preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C).
