  • 6 apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped peanuts
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup mini M&M's
  • 1/2 cup Halloween sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Insert sticks into each apple's center. Line a tray with parchment paper.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, cream, and butter. Cook over medium heat until sugar dissolves, then stir occasionally.
  3. Bring to a gentle boil until the mixture reaches 240°F (soft-ball stage). Remove from heat and mix in vanilla extract and salt.
  4. Allow caramel to cool slightly before dipping each apple into it, swirling to coat evenly.
  5. Roll dipped apples in your choice of toppings while the caramel is still warm. Place on the prepared tray to set.
