  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 teaspoons red chili powder (to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable or mustard oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 1.5 lbs beef chuck, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 large tomato, pureed
  • 1 cup beef broth or water

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the ground coriander, cumin, turmeric, paprika, red chili powder, and garam masala to create the spice blend.
  2. Heat oil in a large deep pan over medium heat and sauté the chopped onions until golden brown. Add garlic and ginger; cook until fragrant.
  3. Increase heat to medium-high and add the beef pieces. Brown them for about 5–7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the spice mix and toast for about 30 seconds before adding the pureed tomato and broth.
  5. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to low and cover. Simmer for 60–75 minutes until beef is tender.
  6. Adjust seasoning as needed before serving hot with rice or naan.
